New Piece

So here she is, my latest piece..... still a couple things to work out but I thought I would share.
My inspirations for this are the goddesses Freyja, Sigdrifa, and Sign....  Im really happy with the results of this piece; its definitely a step in the direction I want to work in. Its in H Staedler pencil on bristol paper, and its about 10.5 inches round. I made the backround very subtle as if enshrouded in mist, contemplating some shadows in there, but its a risk if I dont like it. Either way a very good experience

My Latest Piece

So I am utterly infatuated with a few artists I admire, and nature seems to be calling me. This is a glimpse into the process of my latest piece, which I am very excited about!!! I cant wait till its done, and it will inspire a new level of work for me....as well as cause me to learn greater patience and control, hahaha.....  Ive been working on it for 2 days, and besides the initial pencil layout, I have only managed to ink a whopping 3.5 x 9 inch rectangle ...lmao!!!!! maybe an eighth of the composition.

Family Emblem

Okay so another Emblem, this one to represent my family. While in meditation over it, this shape came to me, and felt as if it was a gift from ancestors. It has a few different versions, but i liked this one with the light burst. I used the twin version as my blog header image.

Personal Emblem

Okay so I decided I needed an emblem to represent me: my artistic and spiritual endeavor; Basically my life's work.  Considering I was very serious about using it for the rest of my life, - I had spent a lot of time in meditation over this. At one point during meditation, I had a vision of a horned owl clutching a cicada in its beak. The feeling was so good that I just ran with it!! Scouring over the internet searching for just the right owl and cicada images, which was actually a lot of fun, as I searched I began to think of the possibilities of the rest of the images that I was amassing.... I really LOVE the interwebs. Having found the right ones I preceded to draw the owl within the 3 inch circle... I really love drawing super tiny; so using my trusty .005 micron pen, while listening to Buddhist lectures and death metal, focusing my intentions while meditating throughout the drawing process, the magic just happened, and the meaning expanded and took shape. I'll probably create of few of these in the future, better and more detailed... but the first will hold that special transcendental moment of inception. The Aura emanating from the owls third eye, represents Enlightenment. Afterwards I spent time researching the spiritual meanings of both owl and cicada through Norse(Viking), American Indian, and Buddhist spiritual meanings; and found there is a tremendous amount of learning that will occur in reaction to this symbol.

Emblem made from my initials

I just made this emblem out of my initials, I guess its my ode to typography, to oldschool, and also to some artists I like. I played around with sketches until this idea emerged and I refined it.  I must have stared at it for hours trying to see if I liked it enough or would want to change it, but I decided that this one is satisfactory, and during the staring, the overall shape reminded me of Thor's Hammer "Mjollnir", so I thought it was very befitting.

Succubus for the "Monsters Under the Bed" art show

I just recently have completed my "Succubus" artwork for Tate's Comics; "Bear and Bird Gallery"
art show themed "Monsters Under the Bed"- a childhood fears show.  The Succubus is loosely based on Lilith. The piece is on wood panel, made with pencil, acryllic, color pencil, microns, and ballpoint pens.
I approached the piece with very little in the way of plans, and I started by creating the geometric framing shape, and then moved to the figure. I used almost no reference for this piece whatsoever. The woman is made up straight from my head, as well as the sheets, and basically everything but the wings and the owls.
It took me about five days to put it together, and I worked alongside my good friend Paul during our art sessions in his studio. I actually Dreamt of a Succubus while working on this piece....was kinda freaky.... I was immobilized, and while the energy exchange didn't feel bad, I basically was overwhemled, and had no choice in the matter, just couldn't get away if i tried...lol.
